NASA & ESA to launch two (2) IR telescopes on May 6, 2009. NASA's one is called Herschel and ESA's one is called Planck (see also here). .

Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to launch June2nd, 2009 to spend a year mapping the moon. If you thought Google Earth was cool, get ready. You'll be able to tell whether there are license plates on rovers from the Apollo missions. Keep an eye out for this one. The Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) will also be launched on May 21, 2009.
